Ruth: Faithful in Waiting
Women in Faith 001
Galatians 6:9 “And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.”
Waiting is rarely easy. We often imagine waiting as standing still, hoping God will finally move. But the story of Ruth shows us something different. Biblical waiting is active. It is choosing faithfulness even when we cannot yet see God's plan. 2 Corinthians 5:7 “(For we walk by faith, not by sight:)”
The Bible reminds us that waiting is never passive. Psalm 27:14 “Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD.”
Ruth's life was marked by loss. She lost her husband, left her homeland, and journeyed to a place where she was a stranger. From a human perspective, her future looked uncertain. Yet instead of becoming bitter or giving in to despair, Ruth remained faithful. She clung to Naomi when it would have been easier to return home. She worked diligently in the fields to provide for them. She walked in humility, showing respect to others and trusting God's provision one day at a time. Ruth 1:6 “Then she arose with her daughters in law, that she might return from the country of Moab: for she had heard in the country of Moab how that the LORD had visited his people in giving them bread.”
Notice that Ruth never knew how her story would end. When she followed Naomi to Bethlehem, she did not know she would meet Boaz. When she gleaned in the fields, she did not know God had already ordained whose field she would enter. When she faithfully served day after day, she did not know she would become the great-grandmother of King David and be included in the earthly lineage of Jesus Christ. God was writing a story that Ruth could not yet read. Ruth 2:3 “And she went, and came, and gleaned in the field after the reapers: and her hap was to light on a part of the field belonging unto Boaz, who was of the kindred of Elimelech.”
Many of us find ourselves in seasons of waiting. We wait for direction, healing, answered prayers, friendships, marriage, opportunities, or simply for God to make the next step clear. It is tempting to believe that nothing is happening because nothing has changed. But God is always working behind the scenes. Your waiting season is not wasted when it is spent walking faithfully with Him.
Isaiah 55:8 “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD.”
Ruth teaches us that God's blessings often meet us in the ordinary places of obedience. She was not searching for recognition. She was simply gathering grain, caring for Naomi, and honoring the Lord with her life. God met her there. Faithfulness is not measured by how exciting your season is but by how obedient you remain within it. Perhaps today you are wondering if God has forgotten you. Remember Ruth. God had not forgotten her in Moab. He had not forgotten her in the fields. He had not forgotten her during the waiting. And He has not forgotten you.
Romans 8:28 “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”
Continue serving. Continue praying. Continue trusting. Continue obeying.
The Author of your story is still writing.
