More Than a Checklist
If you've spent any amount of time in Christian circles, you've probably heard the phrase, "Be a Proverbs 31 woman." It often brings to mind a woman who wakes before dawn, keeps a spotless home, raises perfect children, runs a business, cooks every meal from scratch, and somehow never gets tired. If we're honest, that picture can feel more discouraging than inspiring.
But when we slow down and actually read Proverbs 31, we discover something beautiful. The chapter isn't calling us to perfection—it's pointing us toward a life rooted in the fear of the Lord.

- Proverbs 31:31 “Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates.”
Everything listed before verse 30 flows from this truth. Her diligence, kindness, wisdom, generosity, faithfulness, and strength are not random personality traits—they are the fruit of a woman who reveres God. Before the Proverbs 31 woman was a wife, mother, or homemaker, she was first a single woman who feared the Lord. Our culture tells us to become successful, attractive, or accomplished. Scripture tells us to seek Christ first. Everything else flows from there. Matthew 6:33 “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” Becoming a Proverbs 31 woman isn't about becoming impressive. It's about becoming more like Christ. Long before anyone praises you, God sees the quiet faithfulness no one else notices. He sees every prayer whispered before sunrise, every act of obedience, every sacrifice made out of love for Him. The world chases beauty that fades, success that ends, and approval that changes. But Scripture reminds us that "a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised." So don't strive to become the world's definition of a remarkable woman. Spend time with Jesus, walk faithfully with Him each day, and let Him shape you into the woman He created you to be.
