Holiness and Humility

Holiness is the root of our faith, our foundation, and without Holiness we are nothing. 2 Corinthians 6:17, “Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you,” We come out from among the world through Holiness.

What is Holiness? Holiness in it’s roots means to be set apart. In the Old Testament the Hebrew word qādôsh (קָדוֹשׁ) means to be set apart, sacred, separate from common use. This word is used many times when giving instructions for sacrifices and for the temples in Leviticus and Deuteronomy. In the New Testament the Greek word hagios (ἅγιος) means holy, consecrated, dedicated to God. This word is used throughout the New Testament but most commonly found in Act 7:33 “Then said the Lord to him, Put off thy shoes from thy feet: for the place where thou standest is holy ground.“ Holiness is more than simply avoiding sin. It is being devoted to God in every part of your life.
